According to Snow's History of Adams County, David Meshberger,
Grandfather of the present owner, owned and operated a
stone quarry in 1874. The first operation was located in
the Wabash River at Linn Grove, Indiana. At the turn of
the century, Mr. Meshberger built a small crusher just
east of the river.
After David's death, his two sons, Oscar and Harry, managed
the business. The brothers moved the quarry to its present
location in French Township. Two additional stone quarries
were purchased at Pleasant Mills and Columbus, Indiana.
The brothers dissolved the partnership in 1945 with Oscar
owning the Linn Grove and Pleasant Mills quarries and Harry
owning the Columbus Operation. In addition to the stone
quarries, Meshberger Brothers Stone Corporation constructed
roads and applied asphalt products throughout the state.
In 1961, Ronald Fryback, son-in-law of Oscar, became the
general manager and purchased three more quarries at Ridgeville,
Portland, and Fairview. The company is now owned by the
third and fourth generations of the David Meshberger Family.
